Dr. Juan José Bóveda is the Head of Unit. Medical Retina ranges the diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases, especially those with a medical component, both locally and those involved with other remote diseases: hypertension, diabetes, circulatory disorders, infections, degenerative processes, tumours’ and many more. We know that the eye is involved in many systemic diseases and that most of them may start with changes in the retina. Thus, retinal study is essential, to both highlight the disease and to prevent the possible loss of vision.
We recently added to the Unit new imaging protocols (Fourier OCT, ultrasound HD ), laboratory tests for detection of inflammatory mediators and the possibility of genetic testing to patients with diseases that can cause blindness and have an hereditary basis.
