Dr. Boveda studied medicine and specialized in ophthalmology in Caracas (Venezuela), obtaining the approval of the Spanish Degree of Specialist in Ophthalmology in January 2004. His graduate thesis addressed trabeculectomy in the surgical treatment of glaucoma. He completed his training with a one-year term fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Faculty of Medicine, University of Miami (U.S.A.). Graduate Professor of Ophthalmology at the General Hospital Antonio Rísquez , Caracas. He collaborated with the Barraquer Ophthalmology Center and the Department of Ophthalmology at the Dexeus Institute (Institut Dexeus) in Barcelona.
At present, he works in Área Oftalmológica Avanzada and is responsible of the Medical Retina Unit, where he develops his clinical, teaching and research activities. His area of interest is in general focused in all diseases affecting the eye, mainly diabetes, hypertension and immunological processes that can cause serious alterations in the structure of the eye. Dr. Boveda is one of the main pioneers in getting ophthalmologists involved with the internship programs.
